30 Seconds to Mars was definitely “right here and right now” at their Closer to the Edge concert tour in Manila on July 29, and despite heavy downpours, the rock band’s energy soared high giving their “echelons” (fans) a rocking good night.
But even before satisfying the Mars Army (another name the fans call themselves) that flocked the open parking lot of the Trinoma Mall, the American rock band first met with the local press at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel on the afternoon of the concert.
The members of the American rock band—Jared Leto (lead vocals, rhythm guitars and songwriter), Shannon Leto (drums and percussions) and Tomo Molicevic (lead guitars and keyboards)—looked like men in black in dark overcoats and dark sunglasses. 30 Seconds to Mars has long proven themselves music-wise by performing in almost 30 countries, with the Philippines finally included in the list.
“We do have an incredibly vast audience around the world. Different cultures from different countries,” acknowledged Jared.

Traveling to many places and talking to different people, 30 Seconds to Mars definitely comes to every stage with vast experiences. “We are an experiential band,” emphasized frontman Jared.
Shannon backed him up and added, “We’re always looking forward to doing something different and unique. We are always trying to grow and become better at what we do.”
Proof is their repackaged album, This Is War, which includes bonus tracks “Hurricane 2.0,” featuring rapper Kanye West, and even a live version of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance.”
Another “incredible” experience the band has undertaken is the creation of three of their own music videos for the album, namely for “Kings and Queens,” “Hurricane,” and “Closer to the Edge. They were all directed by Bartholomew Cubbins, a Dr. Seuss children’s book character or Jared Leto in real life.
Asked for the reason behind this move, the band said they wanted to have some control over the process of filming. It was also a way for the band to express themselves and their music using a different instrument.
“King and Queens,” for example, was really memorable to the guys because it a journey to their hometown, Los Angeles. The band also practically shut down the roads of Los Angeles when they shot hundreds of...Read the whole post...
